Toys R Us South Africa is thrilled to announce that 11-year-old Ayush Ramchurran was selected as the overall winner in this year’s Nickelodeon & Toys R Us Ultimate Toy Run.

Ramchurran, of Verulam in Durban, claimed victory when he went head-to-head against eleven other finalists throughout South Africa in an online video battle 

Having raked in the most votes, the popular, grade six pupil, at Everest Heights Primary said “it was a dream come true. I am beyond excited”.

Ramchurran’s display of speed, guts and winning attitude helped him achieve his dream of jetting off to New York with his family, to make SA proud in the grand finale of Nickelodeon’s Ultimate Toy Run, where he will stand the chance to earn prizes valued at USD$5,000 (R71,200). 

“I am still in shock. I am counting down the days. I also thank Toys R Us and Nickelodeon for granting me this awesome opportunity,” said Ramchurran.

His mother, Surjeetha believed that his win was “meant to be”.

“He nagged me to enter and I did. We honestly did not expect that he would win. He is thrilled about his trip to New York especially since he has never travelled on an aeroplane before,” she said. 

In a surprise visit to Everest Heights Primary in Verulam today, the Toys R Us team added great excitement as they personally congratulated Ramchurran on his win. The youngster beamed with excitement as he was serenaded with cheer, applause and praise from all his colleagues at school during assembly.

The Toys R Us team, in addition, handed out prizes to enthusiastic pupils who successful answered questions during a quiz session.

Ramchurran and his family will leave South Africa in October to participate in the US International Toy Run.
