A four‐year‐old pre‐schooler’s dream of owning his favourite toys to help him recover from recent heart surgery was granted this week by Toys R Us and Babies R Us South Africa as part of a Reach for a Dream initiative.

Lungelo Ntuli, who suffered a life threatening condition, recently underwent corrective surgery at Inkosi Albert Luthuli hospital. During his stay in the paediatric ward, the bubbly boy from Ntuzuma (near KwaMashu) had just one wish – to “buy lots and lots of toys”.

With the help of Reach for a Dream ‐ a charity organisation that inspires hope by fulfilling the dreams of children with life threatening illnesses – Ntuli’s dream was realised. This week, the little boy beamed with excitement as he dashed through the aisles at Toys R Us in Gateway in search if his favourite toys.

His mother, Princess, a grocery packer at a supermarket chain store said the gesture brought her son tremendous joy adding that she was grateful that his wish was granted. “It has filled me with joy to see Lungelo laughing again after the tough time he endured both during and after the surgery. He is absolutely delighted with his gifts."

The Reach For A Dream Foundation has brought hope, joy and healing to South African children and their families since 1988 by offering the child a magical moment to regain their childhood that is being lost to an illness.

“For us it’s always an inspiring moment when we see a dream realised. Toys always bring joy to children and this is something you just can’t measure. We are hugely grateful for the partnership with Toys R Us in making such dreams possible,” said Kerry Donkin, KZN Manager.

Donkin added that the organisation received several reports from doctors highlighting the significant role Reach for a Dream had played in the recovery of many children. “This encourages them to believe that anything is possible and it is our duty to ensure that no child quits without believing in the power of their dreams,” she said.

Toys R Us and Babies R Us marketing manager, Nicole Annells, welcomed the partnership saying the brand was pleased to help make dreams come true. “This little boy won the hearts of the staff at Gateway with his infectious smile. Toys R Us has developed an on‐going partnership with Reach for a Dream since the organisation’s
work speaks to our values of bringing joy to children and encouraging them to dream.”
